Right. A couple of days ago I'm reading the sheets and come across an
ad. The ad says that if I transfer my personal checking account from
another bank over to theirs they'll give me a free iPod Shuffle.
Now, I like my bank. I've been with my bank since I was just about 14
years old. They haven't been terribly bad towards me As far as banks go,
they're pretty okay really. But once you start playing to my weak hand,
well, that's another matter altogether. A free iPod, you say? That just
might make things tolerable again. But I had to give my bank a chance to
defend themselves, as they say.
Mike : Hi. If I switch banks, I can get a free iPod. What will you give
me to stay with your bank? I'd really like to avoid the royal pain in
the ass of transferring automatic payments, but I might just do it if
your bank can't at least make an offer.
CuteTeller: Hm, give me a sec? I'll go chat with my boss and see if we
can't arrange something.
(2 minutes pass while I pick my nose and fart discreetly)
CuteTeller: Well, since we are officially affiliated with Airmiles, we
are actually forbidden from offering promotional material that is
non-Airmiles related. But we are prepared to give you 100 Airmiles to
motivate you to stay with us.
RallyImpressedMike: Wow! That's just about the best thing I've heard all
day. I'll go get my Airmiles card and we can do it!
Now, as has been pointed out to me by a few people, this is really a
good situation since I am collecting Airmiles. Had I not been an
Airmiles collector I would have pressed the issue, but they made me an
offer and I plan on accepting it. I think that this one instance of
a-typical-bankness has, for the moment, restored my faith in the
Canadian Banking Universe.
On another note, a friend of mine and I just completed an Interact
e-mail money transfer. Oh. My. God. I love this! I can send anyone who
has an e-mail address money just by doing this. It's taken out, one
specifies a security questions and pass phrase, and voilà, the whole
thing is taken care of. I really wish someone would send me one so that
I could see how easy it is to work with on the receiving end, but
apparently it's quite easy.
I have completed the job application process for my new job. I've
arranged to put 10% of my monthly pay into retirement savings. 4%
pension plan, 4% share purchase plan, and 2% towards RRSPs throughout
the year, and as much as is required to max it out come tax time. This
year I owe money, next year, I'll make up for lost time, if you catch my
drift. It was really weird filling out the application form without
having to worry about making myself look good and without padding the
truth a little.
Anyhow, that's all for now. Taa!|W|P|111136310200870940|W|P|Bank = Not Evil?|W|P|3/23/2005 02:42:00 PM|W|P|Joanna|W|P|Damn! I can't believe you actually did that, heh, that's awesome. I don't collect Airmiles, but I could really use an IPod - what bank was offering that?
Glad to hear about the savings and such. Capitalism has it's up-points, you pinko commie socialist ;)3/16/2005 03:02:00 PM|W|P|Mike|W|P|Wired News: New Dr. Who Leaked on Purpose?
Hmm, this raises an interesting point about the promotion of new series. Could (gasp!) advertisers actually be catching on that BitTorrent can be wildly profitable, both "artistically" and financially? This is a case-study.
Another would be Danger Mouse's The Gray Album which was release on teh Intarwhebs. Look at how popular it got. I mean, Danger Mouse was unknown until he mashed the albums Black and White together in a synthesis of bizarre, yet enjoyable, proportions.
And a quick note re. the Mountie murders in Mayerthorpe. It makes me so sad that this happened in Canada. It makes me angry that this public threat was left alone to do this. And it makes me wonder what, if anything, bill C-68, the gun registration bill, has done.
If you take a look at the current situation in Canada relating to gun control, it looks something like this: Hunters are being prosecuted, while gun-toting maniacs with assault rifles are left to roam free. I mean, how can this man have even bought an assault rifle in Canada? If this was Gun-Happy USA I could understand, but come on people.
We don't need tougher drug laws. Let them decriminalize weed. The sad fact is that it was mis-handling by the RCMP and hypocrisy by the federal government that allowed these brave young souls to give their lives in the service of their country in such a horrific, and socially destructive way. The ones to blame are not the pot growers. They are the law makers who focused on registering long-guns while ignore the black market. THEY are the one who, almost literally, killed these young patriots.
And while we're decriminalizing weed, legalize prostitution. Give these women and men the proper protection they deserve. I do not agree with their choice, but as a Canadian I feel it is our duty to protect all people from murder and rape and drug addiction, regardless of their occupations. If we legalize prostitution and create a red light district, things will be safer for everyone. And with safety, comes happiness.

I can't believe this! I'm literally gasping for breath at the thought of Enterprise coming back. Its one of my favorite shows, and combined with Battlestar Galactica has contributes greatly to good sci-fi on television.
After Paramount and UPN cancelled the series, someone on the 'Net noticed that it would be the first time in over 30 years that there was not a Star Trek franchise or movie in the planning or playing. Fans gathering together in New York, LA, even as far as Tel Aviv are rallying support, and you should too!
I don't know about anyone else, but I persoanlly blame Rick Berman for screwing-with-pants-on the franchise. Should it come back (prayers to the Lords of Kobol that it does), and should it be brought back thanks to fan donations, I'm seriously thinking that we should forbid him from having any involvement with the show. "Just go over there Ricky and count your money. Leave the show to the fans."|W|P|110980642843343354|W|P|TrekUnited.com :: Star Trek Fans United to Resurrect and Fund Enterprise|W|P|
